Florida Weather
Florida enjoys an average annual temperature of 82°F, ranging from an average low of 75°F in the winter to 89°F in the summer, making it an ideal place to vacation and bask in our best commodity—sunshine!
Florida is also extremely humid, which makes the air and the heat feel much hotter.
For example, an 80°F temperature with 85% humidity, actually feels like 99°F. Some days it feels as though you can cut through the air with a knife! That's why air conditioning is so important to us.

 SAFETY TIPS
Drink plenty of water. Even if you don't feel thirsty. Avoid alcoholic beverages and caffeine—they dehydrate the body, worsening the effects of the heat
- Protect your skin. Limit the amount of direct sunlight you receive, especially between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Use sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher. Do not sunbathe for long periods at a time. Many people suffer from sunburn for days from their first long day of sun exposure
- Wear eye protection. Sunglasses with UV protection are a must. They protect the eyes from sun damage. Your sunglasses should absorb a minimum of 90% of UV rays
- Wear foot protection. Wear sandals and shoes at the beach to prevent feet from getting burned on the very hot sand or cut from glass or sharp shells in the sand
- Watch for signs of heat stroke. Heat stroke is life-threatening. Symptoms include hot, red, dry skin; changes in consciousness; rapid, weak pulse; and shallow, rapid breathing
HEAT STRESS SYMPTOMS & FIRST AID
Sunburn—Skin redness, swelling, pain, blisters, fever and headaches. Ointments help mild cases with fresh aloe being the best cure. Cut a stalk of aloe from the plant, squeeze the golden yellow sap and gently rub on the skin. (You may not smell good, but your skin will feel much better.) Severe sunburns should receive medical treatment
- Cramping—Occurs in the legs and occasionally in the abdomen. Gentle massage may help. Sips of mild salt water may also help (1 tsp. of salt to 8 oz. water). If symptoms persist, see a doctor
- Heat Exhaustion—Profuse sweating, weak pulse, and severe fatigue. Skin may be pale and feel cold and clammy. Severe cases are indicated by fainting and vomiting. Move person to a cool location, preferably air-conditioned, and apply cool compresses. Sip water or juice to re-hydrate. If symptoms continue, seek medical attention
- Sunstroke—Very high fever (106°), rapid and strong pulse, and hot, dry skin. Move victim to cool location immediately. Apply cool, wet compresses and seek medical attention. This condition can be fatal
Keep these tips in mind and you'll have a safe, healthy, happy ,and fun vacation! | TRAVEL FAQs
Do I need a Visa to visit Florida?
Generally holders of a valid UK (EU) passport who wish to visit Florida can do so without a Visa if their visit is for less than 90 days and they are in possession of a return flight ticket.
This is possible via the Visa Waiver Programme and requires US Immigration & Customs forms handed out by the airlines to be completed prior to your arrival at the airport. Please ensure that these are completed for each member of your party without any mistakes or crossings out and don’t hesitate to ask for a new form if you make a mistake.
On arrival at the airport you will need to produce these forms to the Immigration & Customs official and be prepared to have eye “iris” scanning and fingerprints taken as this is normal practice.
What type of insurance do I require? The main insurance coverage you will require falls into 2 categories:
Car Hire Insurance
 |
When hiring a car ensure you have adequate insurance for all drivers and we recommend that it includes Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and Loss Damage Waiver (LDW). We also suggest you check your Public Liability Insurance (PLI) within your travel insurance and if it is at least $1 million then you will not need this cover from the car hire firm.
Many car hire firms and travel agents offer car hire packages which include comprehensive insurance so if in any doubt don’t hesitate to ask what is included. Information can be obtained from the links included on this page. |
Travel Insurance |
For your peace of mind it is recommended that all members traveling in your party have insurance coverage that covers the whole duration of your stay. This cover should include medical expenses as these can be quite high if, unfortunately, someone needs medical attention, loss of personal belongings, cancellation or delay of travel, personal accident etc. Once again these are available from a reputable travel agent and a link on this page is available if you need advice on this subject. |
Should I change my cash to US Dollars before I leave for Florida?
There is a limit on how much cash can be brought into or taken out of the US (which is $10,000) and must be reported to the Customs officials. However, you can change your cash into dollars either before departure or on arrival at the airports. Cash can also be changed at many US banks but you will need 2 means of identity to do this and your passport and a credit card should suffice.
ATM machines are widely available and most will allow you to use your current bankers or credit card and PIN to withdraw cash for a small fee. Another alternative to this would be travelers cheques in US dollars which are available from most banks, post offices or travel agents before your departure. Please note that if you use travelers cheques in stores to pay for items you will need proof of identity with you.
Can I use my electrical items in Florida?
There is a difference in the voltage that is used in UK (240 V) to that used in US (120V) so the likes of hairdryers and curling tongs are unlikely to be able to be used whilst on holiday, however, most villas have hairdryers available. That said some items may be able to be used and the best way to ascertain this is to look at the voltage range of the item and if it states that it is 120 – 220v then it will be OK.
An adapter will be required which are available from the airport or reputable chemists, electrical stores.
Will my mobile phone work in Florida?
Yes it will work if it is a Tri-Band phone as the US network works on a different frequency band to that used in UK. Check with your network supplier to see if you have a Tri-Band phone that will work in US.
Costs of calls using a mobile phone may prove to be expensive and as an alternative to this is to purchase pre-paid International phone cards which can be used from the telephone in your villa.
I am taking medication prescribed by my UK doctor. Will I be able to get some more if need whilst in the US?
Our advice is to bring sufficient prescribed medication with you for the whole duration of your stay in the US. However, sometimes there are delays/cancellations so it is best to plan and have enough medication for every eventuality. These can be safely carried in your hand luggage and will prevent an expensive trip to a US doctor to get more medication. Over the counter drugs are available in most supermarkets, chemists (Walgreens) to cover other minor illnesses, injuries etc.
Will I be able to obtain the telephone contact details of the villa I have booked for my family back in UK? This can be easily provided by the booking agent or management company prior to your departure if required
